Chicago pays $5.5m in reparations to police torture victims, too little too late?

All but “five or six” of the 57 individuals who allege they were tortured under the Jon Burge reign of terror were given around $100,000 in reparations this Monday.  Burge (in above photo) was the police commander brought to justice in 2011 for running his “midnight crew,” which routinely tortured suspects for decades, most of whom were African American. Mayor Rahm Emanuel emphasized that while he as not in office at the time of the abuse, he felt it morally necessary to right these old wrongs, despite coming under fire for police brutality in very recent months.
