In a tirade hellbent on proving his toughness towards radical terrorism, Republican presidential front-runner reacted to bombings in Brussels by speculating that President Barack Obama’s trip to Havana coincides with “setting up a little area in Cuba for the Muslim population.”
Trump has famously inflamed anti-Islamic sentiment in a variety of ways throughout this election cycle, but with regards to President Obama is known widely for his birther movement, which supported claims that Obama was not born in America and was thus ineligible to be president despite irrefutable evidence to the contrary.
Speaking Tuesday morning to Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo, Trump said that the attacks in Brussels were proof that failing to secure US borders will “lead to just catastrophic problems.”
Bartiromo pointed out that Trump had been the first presidential candidate to respond to the terrorist attacks, and additionally noted that she found it “interesting” that President Obama had decided to hold a press conference later today during his trip to Cuba, again implying some mass conspiracy between radical terrorism, Cuba, and Barack Obama.
“Isn’t it interesting that now we understand that President Obama will give a live press conference later on today?” the Fox Business host asked Trump. “He’s probably going to discuss the terrorist attack from the brutal communist dictatorship of Cuba. So, what irony that is.”
To this point, Trump then quipped “I wonder how many Muslims Cuba is taking in every year? I wonder if they’re setting up a little area in Cuba for the Muslim population.”
