ICE-Free NYC coalition group rallies against deportation raids

By the sixth day of 2016, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security had confirmed 121 deportation-raids, mostly in Texas, North Carolina and Georgia.  Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers have been given orders by the Obama administration to forcibly remove immigrants from their homes and detain them for deportation.

Rumors that the controversial raids may spread to major cities, combined with mistrust for the government and stories of the brutality of ICE raids have united concerned citizens.  Last Friday the coalition group ICE-Free NYC met to protest the raids outside of immigration court in Manhattan where several demonstrators were arrested for blocking traffic.
