Transgender Brooklyn woman’s attacker gets 20 years for hate crime

A violent case comes to rest in Brooklyn after the sentencing of 26-year-old Mashawn Sands, the man convicted of assaulting a transgender woman with a piece of plexiglass. The crime has left its victim with permanent damage after traumatic brain injury. Brooklyn District  Attorney Ken Thompson announced that the man convicted of the assault last month has been been sentenced to 20 years in prison.
